Kumbikumbi is a Swahili word for Flying termites.Kumbikumbi are adult reproductive termites, called swarmers. Every so often, when conditions are right, subterranean termite swarmers develop within the colony and leave their underground nests to mate and start new colonies.The flying termites are usually collected while flying or after their wings have fallen off.
These termites in most cases are used for a delicious meal : roasted, in the same way, you would roast peanuts. It can be eaten by itself or you could choose to eat it with ugali or rice as it is a very rich source of proteins.
The termites are also used in the treatment of various diseases that affect humans, such as influenza, asthma, bronchitis etc.

So for that case the idea for the name Kumbikumbi come from a wonderful and delicious meal made of flying termites……
